In the midst of one of Oslos most central squares, a pop up concert hall is put up to encourage conversations about contemporary classical music. Two renowned pianists (Ellen Ugelvik and Mark Knoop) will systematically play trough the modernist canon of the piano accompanied by exciting scenography, live video analysis and spectacular light programming. The afro-futuristic jazz orchestra Sun Ra Arkestra is celebrating their 60th anniversary at BLÅ. With their mix of free improvisation, avant-garde jazz and larger band arrangements, Sun Ra Arkestra’s intergalactic chaos, under the leadership of 90 year old sax player Marshall Allen, is a tribute to its deceased spiritual leader and a treat for the common music enthusiast.
Motvind is a politically conscious response to music festivals being sponsored by large companies endorsing fossil fuels, the weapon industry and child labour. The festival seeks to promote Norwegian jazz, improv and contemporary musicians. Their statement? “You don’t have to transcend your political values to enjoy culture!”
The festival lasts for two days and can proudly list acts such as Maja Ratkje, Adrian Myhr and Kasper Værnes/Andreas Wildhagen. Exciting project!
