Oslo’s most famous new building and an institution which has helped to open up so-called high culture to the masses, the Norwegian Opera & Ballet has a tradition of offering chamber concerts on the balcony in the foyer every afternoon during the summer. Featuring everything from new talents to more established performers this is an opportunity to get a taste of what they offer the rest of the year. This week the line up looks like this:

- 3/7: Gustavo Tavares, cello, Nelson Faria, guitar og Rodolfo Cardoso, percussion
- 4/7: Ole Christian Haagenrud, piano
- 5/7 Stephanie Lippert, soprano, Hallvar Djupvik, tenor og Stefan Ibsen Zlatanos, piano

Not strictly speaking in Oslo, but one of Norway’s oldest festivals, arranged since 1964 and with a proud history of featuring some of the biggest names in jazz (and more recently pop as well), Kongsberg Jazz festival is a mere 90 minutes drive from the capital. This year’s line up includes heavyweights like Van Morrison, Stevie Wonder and Dr.John, as well as Norway’s very own Røyksopp, Jenny Hval & Susanna, Ila Auto and many more.
Tickets vary in price but a festival pass will set you back 2665NOK, and a day pass anywhere from 750 – 1050NOK. Check the website for more details : http://kongsbergjazz.no/billetter/
A mysterious new-ish addition to the Oslo club scene, Rap Coven describe themselves as “cyber space witch hop” and have been doing a monthly club night at Fisk & Vilt for a little while now. With words like “60s love child”, “extravangaza” and “Factory” being bandied around and influences including David Lynch and John Waters we’re not quite sure what to expect, but it’s safe to say it won’t be dull!

Free as love
Sukkerbiten was established 5 years ago as a summer venue in Sørenga, right beside the sea and just beyond the Opera House. Probably the sweetest spot in the whole city to sit and enjoy liquid refreshment when the sun is shining, they also have a pretty extensive programme over the summer and collaborate with various festivals and venues to deliver concerts and club nights. This time around it’s a linkup with the Swedish street wear brand/webstore Junkyard, with a line up which includes:
A member of Oslo’s dj royalty Diskjokke has an envious track record of remixes, production credits, and releases including mixes for Bloc Party, Lykke Li and Apparatjik and records for Smalltown Supersound, Vice Records and Full Pupp. As a resident dj at The Villa he’s on home turf, and on this All Night Long event will deliver a 4 hour set sure to please lovers of his particular brand of space disco & electronica.
